To paraphrase what a famous philosopher once said, man is a cruel, brutal and vile creature of nature. He is ruled by instincts, needs and desires. He is selfish. Just like what the Joker did to Harvey Dent in the movie, The Dark Knight. A man's sense of integrity and morality wavers precariously to the dark side when his spirit has been down and broken. And the greatest sin of all is killing another human being by one's own hands. In the 21st century, technology in warfare has devised ways in order to creating killing machines that are more impersonal, and hence, makes it easier for the military to kill terrorists, criminals and outlaws. Even in our own backyards, we are still not safe from each other. Crime rates rises steadily with the economic progress of a city. The often times unregulated issuing of guns has given the public the power to provide safety and security to their family, but at the same time, danger and threat to another's. Because of this, most laws against the illegal use of guns carry serious offenses. On the other hand, laws against the use of knives have been well under the radar. Many teenage hoodlums and street vagrants carry small knives around, either as safety measure or as a way to threat another person in order to get what they want. Due to the seemingly increasing trend in knife crimes in the United Kingdom, Labour party leaders are clamoring for a more serious punishment against those criminals convicted with knife crimes. In fact, the new law plans to place those knife felons under mandatory jail sentences, similar as gun offences. Richard Baker, Labour party justice spokeperson further added that the amended Bill will include at least a minimum prison term for such an offense. According to him, to date, England has had at least 3,500 have been charged with possessing a dangerous weapon, and this has been steadily increasing. Communities have been concerned and alarmed over such trend, and would want to send a message to those breaking the peace and order in their place that the simple act of bringing a sharp weapon is tantamount to being jailed. For instance, one should think twice bringing an old bowie knife for showing off, or having a bowie knife for sale, or else. One would not want to attract attention when being handcuffed to jail.
