David Wilkerson’S Doomday Declarations

As if things weren't bad enough along comes the church to give us another dose of doom! Best-selling author and founder of a major ministry to teens predicts an imminent- "an earth-shattering calamity" centered in New York City that will spread to major urban areas across the country and around the world - part of what he sees as a judgment from God. I'm so glad I see God as LOVING and not and angry deity!

I can remember when I used to get caught up in the "Left Behind" predictions and  "The Cross and the Switchblade," scenarios. Remember Hal Lindsey (of the "The Late, Great Planet Earth" fame)? Then don't!  :-)

Wilkerson says that he is "compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message" about his prediction. Compelled mind you. I don't mean to poke fun of such stuff, but in a way we need to have another picture of God that's not so frightening, don't you think? Wilkerson goes on to say,  "It is going to be so frightening, we are all going to tremble - even the godliest among us."  Okay, let's get more specific here David.

At teh heart of the doomsday declaration is a mega fire in New York that as he says,  "....will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires - such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago. There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting - including Times Square, New York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God's wrath. In Psalm 11 it is written, "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"

God's wrath? What happened to ths loving Father that Jesus spoke to us about and proclaimed?

And what can we do if anything? Have you heard this before, "God is judging the raging sins of America and the nations," claims Wilkerson. "He is destroying the secular foundations", and Wilkerson urges everyone to stockpile a 30-day supply of food and other necessities to deal with the catastrophe he foresees. So, what's the people to do that can't afford a thirty day supply of food and how does that keep us from being burned up?

"I do not know when these things will come to pass, but I know it is not far off," Wilkerson concluded in his message. "I have unburdened my soul to you. Do with the message as you choose." Guess what I'm going to do with the message? You already know don't you?  :-)

But I am sure millions will cower in fear (opposite of faith) and proclaim his words as equal with God as we find with this affirmation, "I have known David Wilkerson for more than 25 years as well as many of his friends and associates," said Pastor Wiley Drake. "He is a godly man and I believe he is listening to God. I encourage each Christian to read and heed what God is saying through our brother."

Yep, he's listening to some god, but not the One I know.
